This will be awarded to help students with the cost of attending a residential Buddhist retreat, such as the Young Adults retreat at Sravasti Abbey, or at Dharma Drum Retreat Center, or at Dharma Realm Buddhist University, or summer programs such as the Woodenfish Foundation. (The award will be given after participation of the retreat.)
Please describe your background with Buddhist retreats and your motivation for going to a retreat. Tell us which retreat you are applying for, if you know already.
Buddhist Leadership:
This will be awarded to student leaders who start a Buddhist group or help organize a Buddhist club on campus or a youth group at the temple.
Please describe your activities. Please include a link to your group's website or social media if any, and/or a contact of one of your group's mentors or other leaders.
Buddhist Life and Service:
This will be awarded to students who volunteer regularly in the Buddhist community.
Please describe your activities and what they mean to you.
Community Activism:
This will be awarded to students who participate in nonviolent ways to promote the ideals of peace, moral ethics, tolerance, inclusivity, and diversity within our greater society.
Please describe your activities and what impact they have had on both yourself and our community.
Buddhist Kindness: Vegetarian Diet
Can you go vegetarian for 30 days? This award is for those who participate and successfully eat a 100% plant-based diet for 30 days this year! (Doesn't have to be consecutive days, though we encourage it!)
Please email us when you plan to start being vegetarian, and then when finished, please tell us how your experience was. Any favorite foods? What were some challenges? What were some highlights?
Buddhist Diligence: Daily Practice
Can you do a dedicated Buddhist practice for at least 5 minutes each day? The practice can be sitting meditation, chanting Buddha's names or mantras, or sutra recitation. This award is for those who can participate for at least 30 days this year. (Doesn't have to be consecutive days, though we encourage it!)
Please email us when you plan to start your daily practice, and then when finished, please tell us how your experience was.
Buddhist Wisdom: Prajna (or paññā)
The pinnacle of Buddhist teachings is understanding our true reality.
Please tell us about one Buddhist teaching, such as a sutra (sutta), or a principle or idea or Buddhist story that you have studied this year, and what it means to you.
If you don't already have a reputable source, here are some sites: CTTB here or Chung Tai here or DharmaRealmLive videos here
