Myanmar Buddhist Association of Georgia (MBAGA)

The Burmese monks of the Myanmar Buddhist Association of Georgia lead Burmese Buddhist ceremonies, meditation, and Dhamma classes for youth, and often are invited by Sri Lankan, Thai, Vietnamese, and other Asian Buddhist temples to participate in events together.
MBA-GA moved from a house on Asbury Drive in Lithonia to this more rural location about 40 minutes south of Atlanta GA in 2015.

Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, has a long standing history of Theravada Buddhism, with Buddhism establishing roots over a thousand years ago. The centuries old Shwedagon Pagoda is one of thousands of once gold gilded Buddhist stupas and pagodas that dot the country - many are now ruins, but there are still thousands that remain open to visit as Buddhists or tourists.
After British rule, Myanmar was under an oppressive military governance for much of the 20th century, and only opened to the global economy in 2011. While rich in culture and history, it remains economically impoverished, one of the poorest countries in the world, exacerbated by fighting between multiple ethnic and political groups. The main ethnic groups of Burma include Burman (Bamar), Shan, Karen, Rakhine, and Mon.

In addition, there is a meditation retreat center in the Goenka tradition - Goenka was born in Burma. This rural retreat center in southeast Georgia offers week-long and extended silent meditation retreats, especially for Westerners.
