Khmer Cambodian American Buddhist Temples (Wats and Monasteries) in the Atlanta Georgia region
ប្រាសាទព្រះពុទ្ធសាសនានៅកម្ពុជា - ហ្សកហ្ស៊ី

Cambodian-American (Khmer) Buddhist monasteries and temples are called Wats.
Most of the Khmer-American community are recent immigrants or refugees from fleeing the Vietnam War and the Pol Pot regime of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia in the late 1970s. During that time, genocide and mass killings were common and literally 100% of Buddhist monks in the country were killed or forced to disrobe. Many temples were destroyed and texts burned. Now, Buddhism in Cambodia is recovering, with the majority (> 90%) of the country still Buddhist despite evangelical Christian and Catholic missionary attempts at conversion.

Here are some photos of the various Cambodian temples in Atlanta and Georgia -- the largest is Wat Khmer in Lithonia, with its impressive architecture of the gate / arch. Trairatanaram Temple in College Park is currently constructing their Dhamma hall (main temple building), and Wat Dhammajotikaram temple in Stockbridge is also planning construction. Photos include alms offering where monks go on alms round to collect food and donations from the laity, as well as Khmer New Year Festivals, Buddhist holidays, and other Asian cultural traditions.
