Bodhisattva Great Strength Compassion Infinite Life Buddha
NOT polytheism! Buddha and Bodhisattva statues are not there to worship as idols. Rather, Buddha images serve to inspire wisdom and awakening in each of us - we can each practice the path to happiness and become Buddhas ourselves!

What is Pure Land practice?

The simplest way to practice Pure Land is by chanting “Amituofo.” Amituofo is the name of Amitabha Buddha in Chinese. In Sanskrit it is Amitabha Buddhaya. It does not matter whether we chant in Chinese, Sanskrit, or any other language as long as we do it properly. When we chant, the sound of “Amituofo” arises in our minds. And as we utter “Amituofo,” our minds concentrate on and embrace that sound.

While chanting, do so sincerely and continuously. In our chanting, we pronounce each syllable clearly and distinctly so that we hear the chant whether it is voiced or silent. Regardless of whether we chant when walking, sitting, or bowing, our focusing on the Buddha’s name will decrease our everyday worries. Eventually, they will be eliminated.

How does Pure Land practice work?

Recitation helps you concentrate and gets rid of your false thoughts. That’s the primary purpose. Renounce defiled thoughts and pure thoughts you will find. The absence of defiled thoughts is pure thought. That’s the Pure Land practice.

“If we can receive and uphold the Pure Land Teachings, not only would we eradicate future sufferings, but we can attain peace of mind now. People who do not sincerely cultivate pure conduct would never be able to understand or experience the happiness hidden behind the practice of this wondrous method. Likewise, those who do not enter into the sea of Teachings would never realize the depth behind Pure Land."
淨宗:念阿彌陀佛

Mindful Chanting anywhere

If you ever feel insecure, you can practice mindful chanting of a Buddha's name or mantra, such as "Om Mani Padme Hum" or "Namo A Mi Tuo Fo". Chanting recitation is an especially effective way to soothe and focus your mind in times of anxiety. Repeating the name or mantra over and over helps guide your mind and is a powerful method of calming meditation, in addition to invoking the protection of spiritual powers. Practicing mindfulness recitation daily helps build up our mental capacities and gives us a healthy habit to anchor us in times of need.

The Atlanta Pure Land Association Mietoville Academy (Pure Land Learning Center / Amitabha Buddhist Society) is a Buddhist temple in the Chinese Pure Land tradition.

Chanting Every Sunday
Join us every Sunday for mindful recitation, approximately 9am - 12pm.

Retreats are at Amitabha Pure Land Society of Pennsylvania Mieto Village   https://www.mituovillage.com/

Most Sundays is chanting - starting with the Amitabha Sutra, then repeating "Namo Amituofo" (Amitabha Buddha's name) over and over, a great mindfulness practice. In Chinese, with Vietnamese and English translation books available.
New? All welcome. Please wear socks and take off your shoes prior to entering the main hall. You will need to borrow a "uniform" (black robe called hai-qing) from the closet to wear, and you're welcome to participate fully in the chanting and bow (prostrate) and follow along in the walking meditation, or just sit in the back. Free vegetarian lunch follows the Sunday service.
